About this tool

A free, browser-based AML risk assessment tool built on established typologies and aligned with FATF guidance.

What is Red Flag Check?

Red Flag Check is a free, browser-based AML risk assessment tool designed to help compliance professionals, business owners, and regulated firms quickly identify potential money laundering red flags across four common scenarios: transactions, customers or clients, business relationships, and payment requests. The tool is built on established AML typologies and aligned with FATF guidance, international best practices, and multi-jurisdictional filing requirements.

Who built it?

Red Flag Check was built by a CAMS-Certified AML professional with over 10 years of experience in financial crime governance, compliance programme design, and suspicious activity reporting. The CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) designation is administered by ACAMS — the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists — and is the gold standard certification in the AML profession globally.

The question sets, risk weightings, and recommended actions within this tool are drawn from direct professional experience across multiple jurisdictions and regulatory environments, and are informed by FATF Recommendations, FinCEN guidance, FINTRAC requirements, NCA standards, and AUSTRAC typologies.

How does the tool work?

The tool presents a series of targeted yes/no questions for each scenario. Each question corresponds to a recognised AML red flag indicator drawn from regulatory guidance and real-world typologies. Answers are scored using a weighted system — higher weights are assigned to indicators that carry greater regulatory significance — and the total weighted score determines a risk band: Low, Medium, High, or Critical.

The tool also generates a draft filing template pre-populated with the flags identified, a narrative summary, and recommended next steps — including jurisdiction-specific filing authority references for the USA (FinCEN), UK (NCA), Canada (FINTRAC), Australia (AUSTRAC), Singapore (MAS/STRO), UAE (CBUAE/goAML), and EU member states.

Important limitations

This tool is for educational and drafting purposes only. It does not constitute legal, regulatory, or professional AML compliance advice. Risk assessments produced by this tool are not a substitute for proper customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, or qualified compliance review. Always consult a qualified AML compliance professional or legal counsel for specific guidance.

Filing obligations vary by jurisdiction, regulated sector, and individual circumstances. The tool does not make filing decisions — it assists in identifying indicators that may warrant further review.
